NCEP/NCAR(Thc National
Centers for Atmospheric Prediction and the National Center for Atmosphetic Research)

Abstract:  In-homogeneities in the round routine observational daily mean/maximum/minimum temperature series from 1979 to 2003 at 130 meteorological stations situated in the cast of China arc analyzed by using the Multiple
Analysis of Scrics for Homogenization (MASH) software package. Based on the homogenized temperature series, the influence of urbanization and land-use change on regional temperature is quantitatively evaluated by calculating
the differences between the temperature trends of observation and NCEP/NCAR rcanalysis data. Results indicate that homogenized data series arc more reliable and reasonable than unadjusted ones. Urbanization and the change of
land-use contribute to the increase of daily mean/maximum/minimum temperature. The increase of daily minimum temperature is significantly greater than that of the daily maximum temperature, which causes the decrease of
diurnal temperature range. Moreover, the daily mean and minimum temperature have visibly increased since later 1980S, which means the urbanization and land-use change have significant impact on the daily mean and minimum
temperature after later 1980x. And the decade moving-average observation minus rcanalysis (OMR) values of the daily maximum temperature arc minus, especially after earlier 1990x, It is probably because the daily maximum
temperature is less affected by urbanization, but is more influenced by other land-use change (such as the increase of the farmland, vegetation and water coverage). For all the seasons, although the greatest increase of the regional
temperature is in the winter, the contribution of the urbanization and land-use change to the regional temperature in the studied area is minimum in the winter while maximum in the summer.
